The W Hotel and Downtown Residences is comprised of 236 hotel rooms on 14 floors, an amenity floor with a spa, a fitness center and a pool deck overlooking downtown, and 83 private residences on the upper floors, including 6 double-height units on the top two floors. A helipad crowns the north end of the building.

I joined the project team towards the end of the design development phase, and was instrumental in detailing many of the unique exterior features of the building. In particular, the wind screen wall which surrounds the pool deck needed to withstand higher than normal wind loads, as determined by wind tunnel testing, and still be visually transparent enough to facilitate the stunning views of downtown Atlanta. The entry canopy and condo balconies likewise needed to conform to a particular visual aesthetic consistent with the W brand, yet fit within the price point set by the developers.
